History of Zojirushi
Long before the Zojirushi name became synonymous with state-of-the-art rice cookers, the Japanese company’s philosophy was to use cutting-edge technology to create everyday household products. In fact, Zojirushi got its start more than 90 years ago by developing the glass-lined vacuum bottle. And if you track the history of the company you’ll see that since its inception, Zojirushi has maintained a keen ability to stay a step ahead of its customers’ needs, as well as its competition, by staying true to this philosophy.
Company Philosophy
Maybe it has something to do with the origin of its name. “Zo” means “elephant” in Japanese, which symbolizes intelligence, strength and familiarity. All of these elements are evident in Zojirushi’s products, which include everything from thermal beverage containers to bread makers to, most recently, humidifiers and air purifiers.
At the core of the company’s philosophy is cutting-edge technology. Staying on the cusp of and using new and ever-changing technology to create efficient, easy-to-use products is what sets Zojirushi apart from its competition.
This philosophy has led to the creation of such products as the Air Pot beverage container, the Micom Rice Cooker, which incorporates micro-computerized technology, the Induction Rice Cooker and the UltraSlim Air Purifier – all of which were invented using high-tech methods.
According to the company’s Web site, “Zojirushi will continue to offer attractive products that cater to modern needs based on its guiding philosophy - to improve customers' quality of life through innovative technology – well into the 21st century and beyond.”
Brief History
After breaking into the industry with the invention and production of glass vacuum bottle liners, Zojirushi once again shook things up when it introduced the Electric Air Pot in 1973. This push-type beverage dispenser was very well received and helped to cement Zojirushi as an innovator and industry leader.
The company’s philosophy of using cutting-edge technology to create efficient, easy-to-use products for its customers was again apparent with its introduction of the micro-computerized electric rice cooker in 1983 and the Home Bakery bread machine in 1988.
During recent years, Zojirushi has introduced a line of air purifiers and humidifiers to add to its impressive collection of household products.

Still aligned with its corporate philosophy today, Zojirushi has a solid reputation for creating quality, top-notch products in three core arenas: cooking appliances, food and beverage preservation and household amenities.
